Uneven Base

Read a lot of reviews on this cooler and it is easily one of the best out there money can buy. The only problem is Quality control. The product i recieved had a uneven base. Therefore the heatsink isn''t making good contact
with the processor. I''m sure lapping the heatsink would solve this problem but I should not have to do that unless desired when purchasing a cpu heatsink.
EXCELLENT! That word comes to mind when I think of this sink

After 4yrs of not building boxes and pretty much out of the game, I was extremely shocked when by the results of this sink.
I used to run a pretty sweet custom water rig, rolling 1/2" and DD blocks. I did that for 2 reason super quiet and excellent cooling.
This 1 drop and run heatsink accomplishes the samething.
Specs:
AMD Phenom II 1100T
Default 3.3Ghz (6) Core
Clocked @ 4.14Ghz 1.456v
This CPU keeps the chip running @ 31C Idle and under 50C full load.
The crazy part is, this thing does it almost completely silent.
I wish this had a rating of 6 because air cooling has tyically been a joke, I never expected this type of result from it.
Oh and it installs in a snap, all needed hardware, comes with some thermal paste (didn''t use, went Artic 5), and looks pretty spiffy to top it off.
Well done guys! Great product.

I got this for my i7 930 because it has 4 pipes with direct touch, that is, the heat pipes contact the cpu directly, no metal plate. I overclock only moderately, 7% to bring it to 3.0 ghz, temps 28 - 30 deg. C idle, 34 deg. C under load. I don''t think you could ask much more from any air-cooled system. I''ve oc''d up to 4ghz (more than 40% oc), and it holds it''s own. It deals with temp surges quickly and VERY quietly. The Titan fan, which I was sure I was going to replace, is just great.
The cooler looks awesome. In fact, it''s impressive as hell. This would look great with just about any color scheme.
The contact surface did not seem entirely flat, and I thought for sure I would need to lap it. But I mounted it using a cheap thermal pad and the temps are so good, I am leaving it. It''s running for 8 months now and the temps are still great

I highly recommend this cooler for your i7.
A Disappointment

Upgrading from one I7 system to another I7 system,I decided to buy what I though may be a better cooler then the Zalman 9900.
After 3 attempts to aquire temps below 75 with slight loads at stock cpu voltages and clocks,I put my Zalman 9900 back on and my temps are great again.
Having mounted this 3 times at least, artic silver 5,every orientation, method known,I''d have to say this is a dud.
The Titan grease also I played with long enough to see that it too was pretty sad.
This probably would have been a decent cooler had the heat pipes that contact the cpu been enclosed in a polished surface as the bottom surface that meets the cpu is far from smooth,or even flush and level..
A Waste of Time and Money..
This unit should be pulled from shelves...
