The SilenX 120mm x 25mm 14dBA 72CFM Ixtrema Pro Thermistor Fan comes from the family of iXtrema Pro Quiet fans, the ultimate in airflow to noise ratio, as they are the only fans in the industry to be designed with silence and optimal airflow in mind. A smaller, domed motor hub matched with a larger, more dramatic fan blade sweep area: no other fans on the market come even close in performance! There might be fans that offer more airflow or lower noise levels, but when it comes to a balance between the two, these fans can't be beat.
Now available in a thermal controlled version, it comes with a 300mm long attached thermistor so you don't need to fiddle around with a fan controller. Simply mount the thermistor close to a heat important component (like a heatsink) and the fan will speed up and down based on the temperature it senses.
Note: The fan needs a break-in period of a few days to properly spin up during a cold start. If the temperature detected on the thermistor probe is not sufficiently high, the fan will not spin up until the probe warms up. Do not use with fan controllers to maintain the ideal performance of this fan.

I bought one of these locally and it worked great. I put the thermistor next to the processor heatsink so the fan would move more air through the case while the processor was working hard. Even when it was at full speed it wasn''t very loud and moved lots of air. The problem is the motor died completely less than 3 weeks after installation. After the fact I found reviews on various other sites all complaining of the short lifespans most Silenx fans seem to suffer from. Luckily I was able to get full refund from the place of purchase.
