Great fan for the cost!!

This thing is HUGE and cools very well. Its pretty quiet but when you crank it up, so does the noise. Nothing to complain about though. One draw back I had was that the bracket that holds it down is very thin and crappy. It snapped after about a year when I was relocating my computer. You''d think a heavy fan like this would come with a thick bracket. Now to call Zalman and see if I could get a replacemnt one.

Good, but could be better

Don''t get me wrong, it keeps your cpu nice and chilled, but I would say it''s a far cry from "silent". My system isn''t overclocked to an extreme (but that doesn''t mean I don''t like low temps) so I can leave it on its lowest and by far quietest setting and still get at or around 30 degrees C. Start turning up the rpms though and it gets noticeably loud. Enough that it eclipses the four tri-cool fans in my case, my power supply, and my two radeon cards. I''d recommend it, just don''t expect it to be as silent as some sites claim.

I''ve heard others say it''s not that great....But I love it!

I did a lot of research on this cpu cooler after I bought it. I know that''s the wrong way to do it but for some reason that''s the way I did it. But I''m glad I did. Other reviews have given this cooler a bad name especially for Core 2 Quads and i7''s. People have said it''s cheap or it''s just alright for stock CPU settings. Well I''ll tell you I have my q9550@ 3.8 and running none stop. Prime95 test 12 hours I got Max temp of 65C and Idle temp of 28C. I have got my q9550 up to 4.2 but I didn''t keep it that way not because of the cooler but because I need some better RAM first. Now in my case @4.2 it did run a little warm 69C to 70C. So I guess if you are going to use it for extreme overclocking there are better solutions. But if you are just a moderate overclocker this Cooler is just fine and wonderful! But if your going to go that hi non stop...Why are you looking at air cooling anyway''s:) But none the less I just wanted to let you know it is possible.

I had a need for my cpu to run 100% load for prolonged periods (days ) water was the only way to cool, now that requirement has passed I thought of aircooled and this fits the bill as the standard air cooled heat sink is poor at keeping the cpu from overheating during peaks (AMD 9550) . What I have found when the chassis case is closed the rear fans dont work as well with the air inside being agitated with this cooling fan . A bit like formula 1 cars ...get their airflow disturbed when following behind another car . leaving the clear side panel off for a while allows the rear fans to work better also the cpu cooler goes from 41C down to 35C the same as the motherboard . Quite good . A mesh side panel is necessary to keep the cooler working at its best . The current chassis has three fans one at the front and two at the back plate . So something will have to be organised about the airflow overall inside boxes to make this really work at its best . Blower fans or back to the mesh sidepanel again .

Nice CPU fan

Not being an overclocker, when I speced out my new gaming rig, this fan was recommended for the E8500 Dual Core chip I bought. It fits well in the Antec case and the Gigabyte motherboard doesn''t have anything in the way of the airflow from front to back of machine. Per the Gigabyte hardware monitor, the cpu runs at a pretty constant 23*C even with some of the more graphics intensive games I have. I can''t give it a 5 only because I have nothing to compare it to.

Great Cooler

9700 cooler

The 9700 is a very good cooler. I have it installed on a core 2 6600. I have used Zalman products before so I opted for this cooler in my latest build. The installation is moderate for a cooler of this size. I am not particularly impressed with the hold down method, only two screws hold this thing in place, when you consider the mount that is instaled on the mob. I do like the thermal compound that is included; it has a brush applicator that allows for much better control of application than the standard artic silver 5 etc. I caution you to make sure that your cpu is flat (mine was not!), lap as necessary to get good contact, you can get a lapping kit (lag-01) here at Frozen CPU, a very worth while investment. Zalman has done a good job with the finish on their cooler making contact with a flat cpu very good. The 9700 blows away the stock cooler Intel provides. I can accomplish moderate overclocking and maintain good thermal performance. I have not tried to push this cooler hard though. Keep in mind that this is a BIG cooler, make sure you have enough space. The con''s are cost, fan control ( i would have prefered a 4 prong connector to the 3 prong provided), and size.

Awesome heatsink

This is one awesome heatsink. It took some time to install(lots of screws)but once I finished this baby could''nt have looked any better. Keeps my CPU around 40 degrees celsius . AWESOME heatsink.

Expensive, But worth the price for overclokers

I installed this cooler on a Amd dual core Socket Am2 proccessor. The installation was a pain for lack of a good mounting bracket, but once installed i was able to overclock my proccessor to it''s max potential. Very quiet and efficient, even overclocked it never gets over 50 degrees C under a load. Good product
