Exceeded Expectations

This heatsink exceeded my expectations. My Q9550 is at 3.65GHz prime95 stable for 24 hours with max temps under full load at 55C. My previous heatsink was a Zalman 9500 and my temps would reach 68C and was only able to overclock to 3.2GHz. I highly recommend the Ultra 120 extreme Rev C. I''m using a 63CFM fan so it''s very quiet as well.

Great after lapping!

The baseplate on mine was VERY uneven. Apparently quality control at Thermalright does not check for flatness. Unless you consider an evening of lapping a new heatsink a good time, I would skip this one. Otherwise, after lapping, it works great; temps way down now!

Must be lapped -- but it sure works!

The bottom of this heatsink has ridges large enough that your fingernail makes a zipping noise if you run it across. Having read another review about that possibility, I got the lapping kit here (will write review on that after this). Anyhow, delivers as promised. My CPU is super cool! My install is currently curing, but temps far below oversized stock QX9650 cooler.

Great Heatsink

This Heatsink drops my idle temp from 24c to 17c! load temp doesnt hit above 25c! Using a E8400 @3.6ghz 1.225v

The Best Air Cooler There Is

Pros - Retention is amazing...spring mounted screws - Cooling is amazing...keeps my Processor at ambient at idle, below 50 at load (Q6600 at 3.45Ghz and 1.6v) - 120mm fan of your choice can be attached - Fan retention is a lot sturdier than it looks - Effective fan vibration dampening - Less expensive than the water cooling kits that it absolutely OWNS - Beautiful construction - 6 HEAT PIPES! - It''s the Ultra 120 A on steroids Cons - Huge - Sometimes too powerful to handle...hehehe

This is an awesome heatsink. I installed it on a Q6600 on an Abit IP35Pro and it fits inside my case, a Lian-Li v1000b, without any issues. However, theres a reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5. Installation is complicated. If your using a socket 775 chip, you have to remove your motherboard from the chassis to install the rear mounting bracket. Installing the heatsink on top of it with the spring loaded screws is pretty tricky, but installing a fan using the fan brackets, is next to impossible. Bottom line - An amazing heatsink, worth the money and installation effort, just understand that it comes with a bit of work to get it on.

Great CPU cooler But............

Works like a dream but the thing is very tall. I installed one in a coolermaster 832 stacker wich happends to be a huge case and I had to actually remove a side panel fan and the houseing just to close the side door. It cools very well, I have a Q6600 at 3.2ghz stable and probubly can go faster but I just havent pushed it yet. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because 90% of the cases out there it won''t even fit in its so tall, however performance-wise its fantastic.
