Quiet and efficient

I have this sitting on a Core i7 on a Supermicro X8SAX, and also on a pair of Xeon 5620 Westmere procs on a Supermicro X8DA6. Previously installed units only felt luke warm, even when all cores were cranked. This baby gets hot, not because it''s not as good, but because it is conducting the heat from the CPU and putting it up where the fan can sweep it away! CoreTemp freeware app shows all cores are 10 degrees C cooler than before, with hardly a whisper coming from the fan. I used the Noctua heat sink compound, which looks just like Arctic Silver, and, apparently, works at least as well. I was careful not to use too much...just a blob about 4mm in diameter dropped on the center of the CPU before installing this cooler...which is amazingly easy to do with Noctua''s provided long allen tool.
