Great improvement over first version

I installed this hest sink in a system thast was otherwise all setup. It was very easy to attach with the new mounting pins and it made a solid attachement to the motherboard. Cooling as always was excellent on an i7-960 which was not overclocked. If you don''t have the option of removing the motherboard I would highly recomend this cooling sink.

I had the stock cooler from Intel. Idle was like 60''s. Load was like 80''s. And had overheat/shutdown issues. Ordered this at 9:47am. I had it at my door within 26 hours. Now down to 30''s load at 50''s.Cheaper than newegg. AND! My name is Chris. Brother is Michael... The guy who packed my Cooler...Mike.. The guy who inspected it.... Chris... JUST WEIRD! Told everyone at work... 5 out of 5

I can''t quite say this with 100% certainty, but having installed it correctly, this cooling solution was simply incapable of cooling my i7-860 at the standard clock of 2.8 GHz.
new mounting method not good

Got the new v2 for an LGA1156. Maybe everybody hated the old version with the Intel-type push pins, but I would much rather have those than what now comes with this unit. They are now using two-piece plastic socket-with-lock-pin devices, and they just do not hold strongly enough on my motherboard, particularly if you remove and reattach the unit. On mine, one corner will not stay tight now. This results in temps hitting 78C at times. The only good thing about these pin mounts is that they can be installed without removing the motherboard. I''d rather have something I can bolt down solidly.
A Classic and still one of the best!

I have an early version of this cooler which features the justifiably hated push-pin mounting system. That aside, it''s the result that matters isn''t it? My CPU at present is a Q9550 Dual-core Quad, it''s showing all four cores maxed out, it''s playing WinAMP and burning a DVD. It''s running at 129 to 130 degrees via the motherboard sensor with an ambient temperature of 74 degrees. That''s fahrenheit and not celsius. The motherboard temperature is 100 degrees. The individual core temperatures are varying with a peak of 140 degrees. I do hear the fan blowing harder in the case but this case has no soundproofing whatsoever. The case is an old Antec mid-tower which is about ten inches wide. When my processor isn''t under severe load the fan becomes inaudible in this case.
It may be hard to tell from the pictures but the fan is rubber shock mounted in a plastic frame. Even if it became unbalanced I''d doubt you''d hear it.
Kudos to Arctic Cooling for seeing the sense of keeping their CPU fans caged. Why isn''t that obvious to every other manufacturer?
I''d also like to give tip of the hat to FrozenCPU.Com for their excellent pictures of their products.
