Excellent Quality, Performance, and Cost!
First of all I have been a long time Frozencpu customer and want to praise their excellent selection, excellent customer service, low prices, and quick shipping! With that said I was hesitant to buy this heatsink because I had never heard of ProlimaTech before, however the reviews I read about this heatsink put it at the top of the heap (even above the mighty TRUE and TRUE Cu, both of which I have purchased from Frozencpu in the past).
The packaging is very impressive and shows ProlimaTechs attention to detail. As you open the package you quickly realize this is a top quality product and it comes with everything you need for LGA775, LGA1156, LGA1366, and AM2-AM3 sockets.
Unlike all the TRUE''s I''ve owned in the past this heatsink did not need to be lapped for optimal CPU/Heatsink contact. The heatsink surface is flat and smooth with no machining marks visible. The mounting hardware is all included and makes for very easy mounting of heatsink to motherboard (and it allows for some adjustability in regards to what CPU to Heatsink contact pressure you want to use.
All in all I''m very happy with the heatsink, in fact its easily the best heatsink I''ve ever owned before and cools my i7 860 better than my D-Tek Fusion V2 block did (at least in my particular cooling loop). Thanks Frozencpu for your great service and product selection, keep up the great work! |

Great Block!
Unfortunately I purchased this block directly from Danger Den (I would have much rather purchased it from FrozenCPU). With that said the block is a work of art and the machining is wonderful! The installation was quite easy and the installation instructions were well written. Everything fit perfectly, all the mounting screws mated up perfectly, and the block mated perfectly with all heat producing surfaces (which is very important on a full-coverage block like this)!
I tested the block overnight before installing it and there were no leaks at all. There was very little restriction in flow through the block so it works great with multiple waterblock cooling loops.
Granted the block cost more than other GTX295 blocks but in my opinion its worth it given the great characteristics and great customer service from Danger Den. |

Surprisingly Good!
This is my first time posting a review of any item I''ve purchased here before. I bought this Thermalright HR-03 GTX heatsink without knowing much about it (it was a brand new product at the time of puchase), so I didn''t know what to expect.
My main concern was the adhesive RAM heatsinks, in the past these are always the "Make or Break" aspect of any heatsink in my opinion. Even previous Swiftech heatsinks had RAM sinks that wouldn''t stick, or would just fall off within a couple hours (despite extensive cleaning of memory chips before installtion of RAM sinks).
Surprisingly all of the RAM sinks included in this kit installed perfectly with very little trouble (if you take the time to properly clean the RAM chips these RAM sinks will stick great)!
With that done I installed the I/O chip heatsink which uses push-pins. This installs quite easily, just be careful when installing push-pins so that you don''t crack the corners of the I/O chip (install two push-pins at a time, do the diagonal corners which will keep even pressure on the heatsink and lessen the chances of damageing the I/O chip).
The PWM heatsink was the easist to install I think. The push-pins on this are easier to install because the heatsink covers more area, instead of just one chip like the I/O heatsink your covering 7 chips which makes it easier to keep level. Plus this heatsink uses thermal pads which come pre-installed. Because the PWM mosfet chips are small using thermal pads makes more sense than using thermal paste (plus the aluminum heatsink used is just pressed, its not machined, so the thicker thermal pads help take up any thickness issues between the heatsink ande PWM chips.
Last but not least is the actual GPU heatsink, this was very easy to install and the mounting hardware is intuitive to install (which is good because the instructions are quite poor to say the least)! The only problem with this is the mountain wire used to attach a 120mm x 25mm fan (required for GTX280/260. It is a very poor mounting mechanism for mounting a large 120mm fan. Not only is it a pain in the butt to figure out, it doesn''t do a good job of holding the fan in place (especially if you more your computer around much). It seems like the fan could just fall right off)!
Most importantly is the performance of the heatsink, this is where the Thermalright HR-03 GTX does very well! My idle temps are now 34C-36C (ambient = 23C-25C). The load temps have been difficult to objectively measure because I''ve yet to find a program that really loads the GPU specifically. However I looked 3DMark06''s HDR benchmarks (at very high resolution and setttings), comparing the stock heatsink to this heatsink my load temps dropped between 12C-18C with ambient temps being 23C-25C. Hopefully they will come out with a better fan bracket in the near future but all in all it was money well spent. Besides cooling a bit better than the stock heatsink its also much quiter (even with a 1600rpm fan).
As always thanks FrozenCPU for the great customer service, easy ordering, fast and cheap shipping, and for good packaging so that our expensive items arrive in one piece! Keep up the great work! |
