Big, Black, and Beautiful
Aesthetically this is the best keyboard I have ever seen. The wire mesh, shiny diamond-cut edges, and brushed anodized aluminum surface looks absolutely wonderful. The company logo needs a bit of redesign work, but at least it is applied on the Caesar in such a way that is consistent with the other silver areas and is in no way obnoxious (I prefer no logos whenever possible).
Being less than a touch-typist, I prefer the lettering on my hp pavilion zd7000 laptop; while less classy than the Caesar it is a little thicker and easier to see. I am happy to see that even though it is named the Caesar, the numbers on the keys are in Arabic, not Roman. :-)
At first I thought its exceptional width would be annoying, but I quickly grew accustomed to it. It is mainly to make room for those silly media and Vista buttons. Well, I do make use of the volume buttons.
The feel of the key action was very good, but I could tell the keyboard panel was hitting the plastic lower half. So I opened it up and placed a piece of felt beneath the keyboard unit, and now it is perfect. Even before modification it was superior in feel to any of the many other laptop-style keyboards I had earlier tried at a few stores, which I found to feel like varying degrees of cheap. My search for a laptop keyboard for my desktop was discouraging. However, in the Caesar I have found a keyboard that meets and perhaps exceeds my laptop keyboard.
The side USB port is perfect for the tiny receiver for the Logitech VX Nano cordless laser mouse, which I might add looks absolutely wonderful next to the Caesar, especially when it sits upon a custom-cut HandStand.com black "Cool Laser Mouse Pad Ultra Thin Mouse Mat". |
